So we've finally made ourselves a little more settled in London...

After our first weekend here, Jeremy started work for BGI, and I started looking for a flat for us to move in to. Two weeks after starting, we were moving in to our flat, and getting settled in. After a week of organising things to be connected, numerous frustrating phone calls, and buying household essentials, I'm now more than ready to throw myself into finding work. So keep your fingers crossed for me ;)

I think in the short time that we've been here, we've managed to do more than I did in the 6 weeks I was here in 2006. We've covered a lot of London's attractions, St. Paul's Cathedral, Greenwich (above photo), Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, Buckingham Palace, Shakespeare's Globe and the London Eye on Valentine's Day. We've been to a soccer match, Australia versus Denmark, and we've had a full day of snow. So yes, it's been cold!! It's been great to see these things, and basically just wander around and find our way. I've said this to people before, but I find that London is very hard for me to navigate. The Tube as a means of transport is great, but it means that it makes it that much harder when you get out of the station and you don't know where you are! I'm thinking I'm going to use buses more often. Should resolve the problem!!

On the weekend, we visited a quaint old town two hours outside of London, called Winchester. Apparently some of Jeremy's friends have lived and worked there over the past few years, and it was recommended as a place to see. It was really lovely, the town has kept so much of its old world charm. There was a massivve cathedral, for a town so far out of London... And we were able to see where Jane Austen was buried (had no clue, just happened to stumble across it). The traffic was horrible coming back through the city, and I drove through the West End of London, to the East. A daunting task, but I managed with great navigational help from Jeremy.

So, what's next? I'm catching up with a friend from my IKEA days tonight, for pancakes (it's Shrove Tuesday) and we have Mary Poppins the Musical tomorrow night (Valentine's present...). On Friday night we leave for Venice. Really can't wait for that, will be very exciting!! I've never been to mainland Europe, and neither of us have been to Italy. A great place for us to start our weekends away :) I'm sure I'll have more to write after that...
